Hugo

Hugo came into the centre after having behavioural problems in the home.
Hugo is a super sweet and affectionate boy who loves having people around him and getting as much fuss as he possibly can! Hugo does have a facial deformity but this does not affect his quality of life – if anything we think this adds to his brilliant character.
Unfortunately, Hugo is also a very sensitive soul who finds certain things in this world scary! Hugo’s response to these scary things involves him toileting in inappropriate places as he feels the need to defend himself. When Hugo was first at the centre, he had a few accidents but since settling in with us he is using his tray more frequently and we’re hopeful this will continue to improve. To help him in the cattery, we use Feliway in his pen and also give him a supplement in his food which helps with bladder health and anxiety (the branch will help with the cost of these supplements). Hugo is looking for an experienced, patient and kind owner who will give him the time he needs to feel settled and safe in his new home and make adjustments to ensure all his needs and wants are met.
If you have any questions about Hugo and the life he needs and deserves, please call the centre to talk to a member of the cat team to discuss him in more detail!
Are you the right person to give this guy his second chance?

Deputy Manager Vacancy at our Bury St. Edmunds Charity Shop

We are seeking a Deputy Shop Manager to support the Manager in running a successful shop and café to raise vital funds for animals in need in Suffolk

This post is part-time at 14 hours per week, including weekends on a rota basis and the flexibility to work overtime as and when needed

Our recently opened charity shop in Bury St Edmunds seeks a deputy shop manager.   As well as traditional charity retail, the store features a small, simple café serving hot drinks and pre-prepared food. As one of the Deputy Shop Managers, you will be working alongside the Shop Manager to provide excellent customer service and help raise as much money for our Branch as possible through sales and Gift Aid.

No two days are the same in charity retail! As well as sorting and pricing stock and creating interesting merchandise displays, you will also greet customers, process sales, serve hot drinks, and support our team of volunteers to ensure everyone has a great experience.

You will have opportunities to develop if you wish, learning more about merchandising, charity retail, EPOS systems, health and safety, and people management. We welcome your skills too, so if you have an aptitude for creative window dressing, a passion for vintage clothing, or some savvy skills gained from high-street retail, we would love to hear from you.

Most of all you need to be a people person, able to engage with our customers and donors, willing to work closely with your manager, and committed to developing a great relationship with our volunteers.

RSPCA Suffolk Central is an independent, local charity. Our charity shops play a vital part in income generation and raising awareness of who we are and how we help animals and their owners in our county. Now covering nearly all of Suffolk, 2,000 animals every year enjoy a safer, healthier, and happier life thanks to RSPCA Suffolk Central. By joining our team, you could help us reach even more in 2024 and beyond.

A grand night out…

Many thanks to all who supported our spring quiz on Saturday 27th April. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and together we raised a “grand” total of £1,012 for the animals in our Branch area.

The winners on the night were the Rebels, in a close run competition that saw the top five teams all within five points of each other. Congratulations, too, to the Happi Days team who brought up the rear.

Many thanks to Geoffrey for writing and hosting the quiz, to Kate for promoting and booking in the teams, to Dawn for doing the raffle and Ray for donating the bottles of wine for the winners. The kitchen team of Stephen, Susanne, Diane, Jan and Mary, cooked and served almost 100 piping hot baked potatoes, and many thanks to them. The hall hire fee was donated by a regular supporter.

The raffle on the night raised £260 (included in the total above), and we very much appreciate everyone who donated a prize, including East of England Co-operative Society whose gift voucher bought three prizes.

Watch the website for details of more quizzes and events this year, and if you would like to help out, please contact Jane on 07592 517836 or via volunteering@rspca-suffolkcentral.org.uk Without the hard work and enthusiasm of our volunteers, we would not be able to help the number of animals and families with pets that we do. Please consider joining our volunteer team, no matter how many or few hours you feel you can give, especially in 2024, our 200th anniversary year.

Saturday Volunteers Needed at our Stowmarket Charity Shop

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to work with our dedicated and hardworking team at our Stowmarket Charity Shop on a Saturday.

Our Stowmarket Shop is friendly and welcoming with an extensive range of goods – something for everybody!

As a volunteer, you would help serve customers, sort stock, and even help make window displays; if that is something you would enjoy. But the role is so much more than that.

Our shops are a local hub of activity, and you’ll be helping RSPCA Suffolk Central raise vital funds to help animals in need in Suffolk.

It would be helpful if you have worked in retail or have previous customer service but not essential, as we are looking for people who love animals, are passionate about making a difference in their community, and want to contribute their time and skills.   It’s an exciting opportunity to join our already existing team of loyal volunteers.

Together, we can create positive change for animals in need in Suffolk.

*We ask that you make a regular commitment to your shift*

Could you be our Branch Assistant?

We are recruiting a Part-Time Branch Assistant to work 15 hours over 3 days (Monday – Friday) with flexibility for additional hours including occasional evenings and weekends.

Are you seeking an interesting, varied part-time role for a cause you care about? Do you have a can-do attitude and a desire to make a difference? If so, this unique opportunity to join the RSPCA Suffolk Central Branch team could be for you.

RSPCA Suffolk Central is looking for an organised, helpful, and efficient individual to support our fundraising and administration team with both practical and admin tasks.

Your excellent customer service skills and can-do attitude will mean you love to help others and thrive on getting things done. From adding supporter information to our database to organising equipment for fundraising events, and filing documents, this role will be varied and rewarding.

You will work at our Animal Centre in Martlesham, supporting your colleagues in both routine and ad hoc tasks. You will be a confident IT user, ideally with some database experience, and happy to learn new systems. You will be flexible, adaptable, and happy to juggle tasks and work to deadlines.

As well as desk-based tasks, you will help with practical activities such as loading vans for events and providing tours of our Animal Centre to donors. You will therefore have excellent customer service skills and be prepared to get stuck in wherever needed.

You will represent the Branch through face-to-face and written communications, so you will have excellent communication skills and a passion for our work.

This is a fixed-term part-time position initially for six months, with scope for additional hours at weekends to represent the Branch at events, and the potential for the role to be made permanent in the future.

Please ensure you include a covering letter as well as your CV when applying.

Woolpack Quiz night raises over £800!

Many thanks to all the quizzers and volunteers who helped raise a magnificent £812 at our quiz night hosted by The Woolpack in Ipswich on Sunday 11 February.

It was a sell out night, with the winning team ‘Cats and Dogs’ taking the honours and winning bottles of Prosecco kindly donated by Punch Pubs.

Many thanks to Will and the whole team at The Woolpack for being such kind and generous hosts,  Brian for stepping up to be quiz master (and writing questions); Sarah and Fran for kindly volunteering to set up, run the raffle and generally be amazing helpers; and Terry for providing the Geography questions! The whole branch team helped in writing a variety of the question rounds – so thanks to everyone involved.

Big thanks also to the companies that kindly donated such amazing raffle prizes – Ufford Park Resort, Dial Lane Books, The New Wolsey Theatre and Artisan Savant florists. The fundraising total wouldn’t have been as high without your generosity.https://artisansavant.co.uk/https://www.wolseytheatre.co.uk/

Keep an eye on our website for details of more quizzes later in the year and if you would like to help out at any of our events, please contact Jane on 07592 517836 or via volunteering@rspca-suffolkcentral.org.uk
